The Journeyman Electrician Position

Day-to-Day Responsibilities of a Journeyman Electrician

As a Journeyman Electrician with Teleco, you will engage in a dynamic role that involves meticulous planning and execution of electrical installations and maintenance. Your day-to-day tasks will include installing, inspecting, and repairing electrical systems with a focus on safety and efficiency. Core Journeyman Electrician Responsibilities

  • Installation and Maintenance: You will install, maintain, and troubleshoot renewable energy systems, including solar panels, energy storage systems, and inverters for commercial properties.
  • Conduit and Wiring: Route and install conduit (EMT, rigid) and wiring for high-voltage DC and AC systems, ensuring adherence to all safety standards.
  • System Testing and Commissioning: Perform system testing and commissioning for solar arrays, ensuring optimal energy output and compliance with local regulations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and project managers to design and implement energy-efficient electrical solutions tailored to each project.
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems: Install and maintain battery energy storage systems (BESS), integrating them with building power systems for seamless operation.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct preventive maintenance on renewable energy equipment, replacing faulty components and ensuring proper grounding.
  • Supervision: Supervise apprentices, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to safety standards and proper installation techniques.

Advanced Technical Duties

Safety Protocols

Required Experience & Skills

  • Certification: Must possess a valid California Journeyman Certification from the Department of Industrial Relations.
  • Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of NEC and renewable energy codes, including solar and battery storage regulations.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years as a Journeyman Electrician, with hands-on experience in solar panel installations, inverters, and high-voltage DC systems.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with multimeters, megohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools is essential.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and energy system diagrams.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail for troubleshooting and system optimization.

Tools & Equipment

  • Daily Tools: Journeyman Electricians will use tools such as conduit benders, wire strippers, and power drills daily.
  • Personal Tools: Electricians are expected to have a personal set of basic hand tools.
  • Company-Provided Equipment: Teleco provides specialized equipment, including test meters and safety gear.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Working Conditions: Work involves exposure to outdoor conditions and varying weather, requiring resilience and adaptability.
