We are seeking a Voice Data Technician to join our Arlington, VA team to perform various commercial projects, primarily in data centers and commercial facilities in Arlington and nearby areas, including Washington, D.C., Alexandria, and Fairfax.


Job Responsibilities

Infrastructure Installation

  • Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optic cabling.
  • Perform cable routing through conduits, pathways, and cable trays, ensuring a clean and organized installation.
  • Install racks, patch panels, server enclosures, and other network hardware in compliance with client specifications.
  • Conduct labeling and documentation of all installed cables and components.

System Testing and Troubleshooting

  • Use industry-standard tools (e.g., Fluke testers) to test and certify network cabling systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues quickly to minimize downtime.
  • Perform quality control checks to verify compliance with BICSI standards and client requirements.

Commercial and Data Center Work

  • Work on a variety of projects, including data center installations, office fit-outs, and tenant improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with data center managers to ensure adherence to facility standards and protocols.
  • Support infrastructure upgrades and expansions with minimal disruption to client operations.

Project Coordination

  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and client specifications to guide installation and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and team members to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress, identifying potential delays or issues proactively.

Compliance and Safety

  • Follow all safety protocols to maintain a secure work environment, including adherence to OSHA and site-specific regulations.
  • Ensure all work aligns with BICSI and TIA/EIA standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free workspace.

Maintenance and Documentation

  • Maintain an organized inventory of tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Complete and submit detailed documentation for all completed installations and testing results.

Qualifications

Preferred Certifications

  • BICSI Certification (Installer 1 or higher) is strongly preferred.
  • Fiber Optic Certification such as ETA FOI is a plus.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification for workplace safety is highly desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in voice and data cabling installation and maintenance.
  • Proven experience in commercial environments, such as data centers, corporate offices, or industrial facilities.
  • Strong background in fiber optic cabling, including termination, splicing, and testing.

Skills

  • Comprehensive understanding of structured cabling systems including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optics.
  • Ability to use testing and diagnostic tools effectively.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work on ladders or in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working in diverse environments, including construction sites and active commercial facilities.
