The Journeyman Electrician Position

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

As a Journeyman Electrician at MMR Group, your day will be dynamic and engaging, involving the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of sophisticated electrical systems. You’ll work closely with a team of skilled electricians, engineers, and project managers, ensuring each project is completed to the highest standards. Your role will require you to be adaptable, as you will handle various tasks from routing and installing conduit to performing system testing and commissioning.

Core Journeyman Electrician Responsibilities

• Renewable Energy Installation: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot renewable energy systems, including solar panels and battery energy storage systems (BESS), ensuring integration with building power systems.
• Conduit and Wiring: Route and install conduit (EMT, rigid) and wiring for high-voltage DC and AC systems, maintaining compliance with local regulations.
• System Testing and Commissioning: Perform thorough system testing and commissioning for solar arrays, optimizing energy output.
• Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and project managers to design and implement energy-efficient electrical solutions.
• Advanced Duties: Engage in advanced troubleshooting using diagnostic tools, conduct energy audits, and participate in the development of innovative electrical solutions.
• Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to safety protocols, ensuring all work meets NEC and local codes. Conduct regular safety audits and participate in safety training sessions.

Required Experience & Skills

• Certification: Must hold a valid California Journeyman Certification from the Department of Industrial Relations.
• Knowledge Base: Extensive understanding of NEC, renewable energy codes, solar installations, and high-voltage DC systems.
• Technical Proficiency: Competence with tools such as multimeters and megohmmeters, and ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.
• Experience: Minimum of 4 years as a Journeyman Electrician, with a proven track record in similar roles.
• Certifications: Additional certifications in solar energy or energy storage systems are highly desirable.

Tools & Equipment

• Daily Tools: Journeyman Electricians are expected to have personal tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, and wire strippers.
