What You’ll Do as a Journeyman Electrician

As a Journeyman Electrician with MMR Group, you’ll be integral to our extensive multi-year project in Huntington Beach, CA, and potential projects in neighboring cities like Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, and Fountain Valley. Your role will focus on the installation and maintenance of advanced renewable energy systems for commercial properties, ensuring high standards of safety and efficiency. Your Daily Tasks as a Journeyman Electrician

Install and Maintain Renewable Energy Systems

Your primary responsibility will be the installation and maintenance of renewable energy systems, including solar panels, energy storage systems, and inverters. You’ll be routing and installing conduit (EMT, rigid) and wiring for high-voltage DC and AC systems, ensuring all installations meet stringent safety and quality standards.

Perform System Testing and Commissioning

You’ll conduct system testing and commissioning of solar arrays to ensure they deliver optimal energy output. This involves ensuring compliance with local regulations and performing detailed analyses to troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise.

Collaborate with Engineers and Project Managers

Working closely with engineers and project managers, you’ll assist in designing and implementing energy-efficient electrical solutions. Your expertise will be crucial in integrating battery energy storage systems with existing building power infrastructures.

Conduct Preventive Maintenance

Routine preventive maintenance will be part of your daily activities. You’ll replace faulty components, ensure proper grounding, and prepare detailed reports on system performance and maintenance activities. Supervising apprentices will also be a key part of your role, ensuring that they adhere to safety standards and proper installation techniques.

Additional Daily Activities

• Regularly inspect electrical systems to identify hazards or potential issues.
• Coordinate with suppliers and contractors to ensure timely delivery and installation of electrical components.
• Update and maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work.

What You Need to Be a Journeyman Electrician

To excel in this role, you must have a valid California Journeyman Certification from the Department of Industrial Relations. A solid understanding of NEC and renewable energy codes, particularly those related to solar and battery storage, is essential. You should have at least 4+ years of experience in the field, with hands-on expertise in solar panel installations, inverters, and high-voltage DC systems.

Must-Have Skills

• Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as multimeters and megohmmeters.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and energy system diagrams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail for effective troubleshooting and system optimization.
