The Journeyman Electrician Position

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

As a Journeyman Electrician with MMR Group, you will be at the forefront of our electrical projects, responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems. Your daily tasks will involve working on cutting-edge renewable energy projects, ensuring efficient and safe electrical installations.

Core Journeyman Electrician Responsibilities

  • Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot renewable energy systems, including solar panels, energy storage systems, and inverters.
  • Conduit and Wiring: Route and install conduit (EMT, rigid) and wiring for high-voltage DC and AC systems.
  • System Testing and Commissioning: Perform system testing and commissioning for solar arrays, ensuring optimal energy output and compliance with local regulations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and project managers to design and implement energy-efficient electrical solutions.
  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): Install and maintain BESS and integrate them with building power systems.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Conduct preventive maintenance on renewable energy equipment, including replacing faulty components and ensuring proper grounding.
  • Supervision and Reporting: Supervise apprentices, ensuring adherence to safety standards and proper installation techniques, and prepare detailed reports on system performance and maintenance activities.

Advanced Technical Duties

  • Perform advanced diagnostics on energy storage systems using specialized testing equipment.
  • Design and implement advanced grounding and bonding solutions for complex electrical systems.
  • Manage and optimize energy distribution systems to enhance efficiency and reliability.

Safety Protocols

Safety is our top priority. You will adhere to strict safety protocols, including regular safety audits, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with OSHA standards.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Must hold a valid California Journeyman Certification from the Department of Industrial Relations.
  • Extensive knowledge of NEC and renewable energy codes, including solar and battery storage regulations.
  • Experience with solar panel installations, inverters, and high-voltage DC systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as multimeters and megohmmeters.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and energy system diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail for troubleshooting and system optimization.

Essential Certifications

  • California Journeyman Certification
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
  • CPR and First Aid Certification

Required Technical Knowledge

  • Advanced understanding of renewable energy systems
  • Knowledge of energy storage technologies
  • Familiarity with grid-tied and off-grid systems

Tools & Equipment

Specific Tools

  • Daily use of multimeters, conduit benders, wire strippers, and crimping tools.
