What You’ll Do as a Journeyman Electrician

As a Journeyman Electrician at FSG, you’ll be at the heart of our multi-year project in Glendale, CA. Our work spans across neighboring cities including Burbank, Pasadena, and La Cañada Flintridge, delivering top-notch renewable energy solutions. Your role is crucial in ensuring our projects run smoothly and efficiently. You’ll spend your day installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical systems, with a strong focus on renewable energy applications. This role is hands-on, requiring a mix of technical skills, problem-solving, and teamwork.

Your Daily Tasks as a Journeyman Electrician

Install and Maintain Renewable Energy Systems

Your primary responsibility will be the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of renewable energy systems for commercial properties. This includes working with solar panels, energy storage systems, and inverters to ensure optimal performance and compliance with local regulations.

Electrical Wiring and Conduit Installation

You’ll route and install conduit (EMT, rigid) and wiring for high-voltage DC and AC systems. This requires precision and adherence to the highest safety standards.

System Testing and Commissioning

Perform system testing and commissioning for solar arrays, ensuring they meet the required energy output levels. This involves collaborating with engineers and project managers to design and implement energy-efficient electrical solutions.

Battery Energy Storage Systems

You’ll install and maintain battery energy storage systems (BESS), integrating them with building power systems. This task requires a meticulous approach to ensure seamless integration and operation.

Preventive Maintenance

Conduct preventive maintenance on renewable energy equipment, including replacing faulty components and ensuring proper grounding. This is crucial for preventing downtime and extending the lifespan of the systems.

Supervising and Reporting

As a Journeyman Electrician, you’ll supervise apprentices, ensuring they adhere to safety standards and proper installation techniques. Additionally, you’ll prepare detailed reports on system performance and maintenance activities.

Common Daily Activities

What You Need to Be a Journeyman Electrician

Certification and Experience

You must hold a valid California Journeyman Certification from the Department of Industrial Relations and have 4+ years of field experience.

Technical Skills

• Extensive knowledge of NEC and renewable energy codes, including solar and battery storage regulations.
• Experience with solar panel installations, inverters, and high-voltage DC systems.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as multimeters and megohmmeters.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and energy system diagrams.
