Fire Sprinkler Designer at Prime Partners

Prime Partners is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Fire Sprinkler Designer to join our team in Scottsdale, AZ. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing, developing, and coordinating fire sprinkler systems for a variety of commercial, industrial, and residential projects. This position requires expertise in fire protection engineering principles, strong knowledge of building and fire codes, and proficiency in CAD software.

As a Fire Sprinkler Designer, you will work closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors to deliver high-quality, code-compliant designs. You’ll oversee projects from initial concept through final implementation, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to local, state, and national regulations.


Key Responsibilities

Design and Drafting

  • Design fire sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA standards, local building codes, and client specifications.
  • Create detailed layouts and shop drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design software.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations and pipe sizing to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Develop material take-offs and fabrication lists to assist with procurement and installation.

Code Compliance and Coordination

  • Ensure all designs comply with local, state, and national fire codes, including NFPA standards.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to integrate fire protection systems into overall building designs.
  • Collaborate with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) to obtain necessary permits and approvals.

Project Management Support

  • Assist project managers in planning and scheduling design phases to meet project deadlines.
  • Provide technical support during installation, ensuring designs are accurately implemented on-site.
  • Perform field surveys and site inspections to validate design feasibility and identify any project constraints.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain detailed project documentation, including calculations, drawings, and submittals.
  • Provide as-built drawings and documentation at project completion.
  • Track and report project progress, addressing any design-related issues that arise during construction.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in fire sprinkler design or a similar role.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar CAD software.
  • Experience with hydraulic calculation software, such as HASS or AutoSPRINK.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA standards (specifically NFPA 13, 14, and 25).
  • Knowledge of local, state, and national fire codes, as well as building codes.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • NICET Level II or III in Water-Based Systems Layout (required within 6–12 months if not already certified).
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Certification.
  • CPD (Certified in Plumbing Design) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with LEED and sustainable design practices is desirable.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally visit job sites, which may involve climbing ladders or working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on designs and calculations.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time position, Monday–Friday, with flexibility for project deadlines.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required based on project needs.
