Our services extend across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, including cities like Plano, Arlington, Irving, and Garland. This role is integral to our mission to deliver high-performance fiber optic solutions to various commercial clients. As a Fiber Optic Technician, you will collaborate with a team of experts to enhance connectivity infrastructure, tackle challenges with precision, and contribute to cutting-edge projects in the area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Implement Fiber Optic Networks: Utilize your expertise to create detailed network designs that meet client specifications. Implement these designs with precision, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.
  • Perform Fusion Splicing Operations: Conduct precise fusion splicing to join fiber optic cables, ensuring minimal signal loss and high-quality connections.
  • Test and Certify Fiber Installations: Use OTDR and other testing equipment to verify and certify the integrity and performance of installed fiber optic systems.
  • Maintain Splice Documentation: Accurately document all splicing and testing activities, maintaining comprehensive records for future reference and compliance.
  • Install Fiber Distribution Systems: Set up and configure fiber distribution systems, ensuring efficient and reliable data transmission.
  • Configure DWDM Systems: Implement Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing systems to enhance network capacity and efficiency.
  • Perform OTDR Testing: Conduct Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer testing to assess the quality and performance of fiber optic links.
  • Implement Fiber Management Systems: Develop and manage fiber management systems to organize and maintain fiber optic infrastructure.
  • Coordinate Pathway Installations: Work with construction teams to plan and execute pathway installations for fiber optic cables.
  • Maintain Clean Work Environment: Ensure that all work areas are kept clean and organized, adhering to safety standards and protocols.
  • Perform Emergency Restoration: Respond to and resolve network outages or damages, restoring services promptly and efficiently.
  • Train Junior Technicians: Mentor and guide junior team members, sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Conduct Site Surveys in Regional Areas: Perform detailed site surveys in the Dallas region to assess existing infrastructure and plan new installations.
  • Collaborate on “Dallas Fiber Expansion 2024” Project: Participate in a significant upcoming project aimed at expanding WiLine’s fiber optic network across Dallas, involving extensive infrastructure upgrades and enhancements.
  • Comply with Texas-Specific Regulations: Ensure all work adheres to state-specific regulations and standards for fiber optic installations.

Required Qualifications

  • FOA Certification Required: Must possess Fiber Optic Association certification, validating your expertise in fiber optic technologies and practices.
  • Extensive Experience with Fusion Splicing: Demonstrated proficiency in performing fusion splicing with minimal errors.
  • Proven Expertise in OTDR Testing: Strong ability to conduct and interpret OTDR tests, ensuring the reliability of fiber optic networks.
  • Demonstrated Ability with Fiber Management Systems: Experience in managing and maintaining fiber optic infrastructure through advanced management systems.
  • Advanced Knowledge of Fiber Types: Comprehensive understanding of single-mode, multi-mode, and DWDM systems and their applications.
  • Certification in Multiple Splice Platforms: Must have certifications in various splice platforms to demonstrate versatility and proficiency.
  • Strong Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to identify and resolve issues swiftly, minimizing downtime and service interruptions.
  • Experience with Documentation Systems: Proficiency in using digital documentation tools to maintain accurate and detailed records.
  • Proven Emergency Response Experience: Ability to handle emergency situations effectively, restoring services with minimal disruption.
  • 2-5 Years of Experience Required: Must have 2-5 years of experience in fiber optic work within a commercial setting.
  • Familiarity with Dallas Infrastructure: Knowledge of the local fiber optic landscape and infrastructure nuances specific to the Dallas area.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License: Must possess a valid driver’s license to travel to job sites across the Dallas region.
