We are seeking a Voice & Data Cable Installer to join our Richmond, VA team. This position focuses on data center projects and commercial office building installations. If you are detail-oriented, reliable, and experienced in the field of structured cabling, we want to hear from you.
Job Responsibilities
Installation and Maintenance
- Install, terminate, and test low-voltage structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optic cabling.
- Route, pull, and secure cables in data centers, server rooms, and commercial office environments.
- Perform labeling and documentation of cabling systems to ensure proper identification and maintenance.
- Install racks, patch panels, cable trays, and conduits following company and industry standards.
Testing and Troubleshooting
- Conduct testing using industry-standard tools (e.g., Fluke DTX cable analyzer) to ensure cable performance and compliance with standards.
- Identify and resolve cable and connectivity issues in a timely manner.
Compliance and Standards
- Adhere to BICSI standards and TIA/EIA cabling specifications to ensure quality and compliance.
- Follow OSHA safety protocols and site-specific safety guidelines.
Customer Interaction
- Collaborate with customers and project managers to ensure installations meet project specifications and timelines.
- Provide updates on project progress and communicate any challenges or delays.
Additional Duties
- Assist in maintaining an organized inventory of tools, materials, and equipment.
- Participate in training and certifications to stay updated on industry best practices and technologies.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- BICSI Installer Level 1 (or higher) certification preferred.
- OSHA 10/30 certification is a plus.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in voice and data cabling installation.
- Proficiency in fiber optic installation, termination, and troubleshooting is preferred.
- Experience working in data centers or commercial office environments is highly desirable.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optics.
- Familiarity with industry standards (BICSI, TIA/EIA).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, on ladders, and at heights.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions (e.g., data centers, construction sites).
