What You’ll Do as a Data Center Technician
As a Data Center Technician at Crosby Electric, you’ll play a crucial role in our multi-year project in Richmond, VA, with additional projects in nearby cities such as Henrico, Chesterfield, and Ashland. This position is hands-on and involves both technical and collaborative work. You’ll be part of a team dedicated to setting up and maintaining the physical infrastructure that supports some of the most advanced data centers in the region. Your work will directly impact the efficiency and reliability of these facilities.
Your Daily Tasks as a Data Center Technician
Install and Maintain Equipment
Your primary responsibility will be installing server racks, cabinets, and power distribution units (PDUs). You’ll ensure everything is aligned and anchored correctly, adhering to the highest standards of precision and safety.
Manage Cabling Systems
You’ll route, secure, and label high-density cabling in overhead trays, underfloor systems, and racks. Keeping this setup organized is essential to maintaining a functional and efficient data center environment.
Troubleshoot and Test
Daily, you’ll perform cable testing and troubleshooting using advanced diagnostic tools. This ensures that all systems are running smoothly and any issues are swiftly resolved.
Collaborate with Teams
You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, and other trades to meet installation schedules and technical requirements. This collaboration is key to the seamless execution of projects.
Maintain Standards
Adhering to cleanliness, safety, and operational standards in sensitive data center environments is crucial. You’ll be expected to uphold these standards at all times.
Manage Inventory
Part of your role will include managing materials and inventory to support ongoing projects. You’ll also provide detailed documentation of completed work to ensure accurate project tracking.
Additional Daily Activities
- Conducting regular maintenance checks on equipment and systems.
- Assisting in the setup and configuration of network devices.
- Providing technical support to on-site staff and clients as needed.
What You Need to Be a Data Center Technician
Experience and Knowledge
You’ll need 3-5 years of experience in data center environments. A solid understanding of power and cooling systems and network configurations is essential.
Must-Have Skills
- Proficiency in cable management and testing tools.
- Strong documentation skills to ensure accurate record-keeping.
