Job Responsibilities
Installation and Maintenance
- Install, terminate, and test low-voltage structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optic cabling.
- Route and secure cables through conduits, pathways, and cable trays in commercial and industrial environments.
- Perform installations of racks, patch panels, equipment enclosures, and related hardware.
- Ensure all installations meet project specifications, timelines, and industry standards.
Testing and Troubleshooting
- Conduct performance testing using industry-standard equipment (e.g., Fluke Network Testers) to ensure optimal performance.
- Diagnose and resolve cabling and connectivity issues with a focus on efficiency and precision.
Compliance and Standards
- Adhere to Washington State regulations, including the Limited Energy Systems (06) license requirements.
- Follow BICSI, TIA/EIA, and NEC standards for all installations and maintenance tasks.
- Implement safety measures in compliance with OSHA guidelines and site-specific protocols.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and team members to ensure successful project execution.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to guide installations.
- Provide progress updates and report any challenges or potential delays.
Additional Duties
- Maintain an organized inventory of tools, materials, and equipment.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay updated on industry advancements and certifications.
Qualifications
Required
- Limited Energy Systems (06) License:
- Required by Washington State for voice and data technicians.
- Must have completed a minimum of 4,000 hours of supervised work experience and passed the state examination.
Preferred
- BICSI Certification:
- Installer 1 or higher certification preferred.
- Fiber Optic Certification:
- ETA Fiber Optics Installer (FOI) or equivalent certification is a plus.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification for workplace safety.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in voice and data cabling installation.
- Proficiency in fiber optic termination, splicing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with large-scale commercial projects, including data centers and office environments.
Skills
- Strong understanding of structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optics.
- Familiarity with testing tools and troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working on ladders, in confined spaces, and at various heights.
- Flexibility to work in diverse environmental conditions, including active construction sites.
Compensation
- Competitive hourly pay: $38 - $45/hour, based on experience.
