What You’ll Do as a Journeyman Electrician

As a Journeyman Electrician at TEC Electric, you’ll be an essential part of our team working on an exciting multi-year project in Culver City, CA, with additional projects in nearby cities such as Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, and Inglewood. Your primary responsibility is to ensure that all electrical systems are installed and maintained to the highest standards, with a focus on renewable energy solutions. Your Daily Tasks as a Journeyman Electrician

Renewable Energy System Installation and Maintenance

You’ll be at the forefront of installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting renewable energy systems for commercial properties. This includes working with solar panels, energy storage systems, and inverters. Your day-to-day tasks will involve routing and installing conduit (EMT, rigid) and wiring for high-voltage DC and AC systems, ensuring they are safely and efficiently connected.

System Testing and Commissioning

A critical part of your role is performing system testing and commissioning for solar arrays. You’ll ensure optimal energy output and compliance with local regulations. You’ll be collaborating closely with engineers and project managers to design and implement energy-efficient electrical solutions.

Supervising Apprentices and Conducting Preventive Maintenance

Part of your responsibility is to supervise apprentices, ensuring they adhere to safety standards and proper installation techniques. You’ll also conduct preventive maintenance on renewable energy equipment, including replacing faulty components and ensuring proper grounding. Your expertise will help keep these systems running smoothly and efficiently.

Additional Daily Activities

• Inspect and troubleshoot electrical panels and systems to diagnose issues and perform necessary repairs.
• Work with a variety of hand and power tools to complete installations and repairs.
• Coordinate with other trades and contractors to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.

What You Need to Be a Journeyman Electrician

To thrive in this role, you must have a valid California Journeyman Certification from the Department of Industrial Relations. Your extensive knowledge of NEC and renewable energy codes, including solar and battery storage regulations, is crucial. You should have:

• At least 4+ years of field experience as a Journeyman Electrician.
• Proficiency with multimeters, megohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools.
• The ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and energy system diagrams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail for troubleshooting and system optimization.
