The Fiber Optics Technician Position

Core Fiber Optics Technician Responsibilities

Your role as a Fiber Optics Technician will encompass a variety of crucial tasks, including:

• Installing, terminating, and testing fiber optic cables in commercial and industrial environments.
• Performing splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fibers using fusion splicers.
• Routing and securing fiber optic cables within conduits, trays, and overhead systems, ensuring compliance with site standards.
• Conducting OTDR testing and troubleshooting to ensure signal integrity and performance.
• Collaborating with project managers, engineers, and other trades to integrate fiber optic systems with network infrastructure.
• Maintaining detailed documentation of splicing, testing, and installation activities for client records and compliance.
• Ensuring installations are clean, organized, and meet industry best practices.

Advanced technical responsibilities include:

• Designing and implementing complex fiber optic networks for high-profile clients in the Hollywood area and neighboring cities.
• Conducting comprehensive signal loss audits to optimize network performance.
• Leading technical training sessions to upskill junior technicians.

Required Experience & Skills

To succeed in this role, you should have:

• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Fiber Optics Technician.
• Certifications such as Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or Fiber Optics Installer (FOI).
• Proficiency in OTDR testing and troubleshooting.
• Strong knowledge of industry standards, including TIA/EIA.
• Excellent attention to detail in cable routing and termination.
• Effective communication skills for team collaboration.
