What You’ll Do as an Apprentice Electrician

As an Apprentice Electrician at Collins Electrical, you’ll embark on an exciting journey in the heart of Torrance, CA, contributing to a multi-year initiative focused on sustainable energy projects. Your role is pivotal in supporting the installation and maintenance of cutting-edge electrical systems, particularly electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Our projects extend beyond Torrance, reaching into neighboring cities such as Redondo Beach, Hawthorne, Gardena, and Carson. You’ll be working hands-on alongside journeymen and foremen, gaining invaluable experience in real-world electrical applications.

Your Daily Tasks as an Apprentice Electrician

Collaborate with Experienced Electricians

Your day starts by teaming up with journeymen and foremen, assisting in the installation and maintenance of EV charging stations. You’ll follow NEC and California Electric Code standards, ensuring all electrical installations are safe and efficient.

Electrical Wiring and Conduit Work

You’ll be responsible for pulling and securing electrical wiring through conduits, trenches, and walls, ensuring everything is correctly labeled and organized. Under supervision, you’ll assist with conduit bending (EMT, rigid) and installation, developing your skills in this essential area.

Equipment Installation and Troubleshooting

Help with the installation of service panels, transformers, and EV charging equipment. You’ll also perform basic troubleshooting tasks and system testing under the guidance of licensed electricians, ensuring that all systems function optimally.

Site Maintenance and Safety

Maintaining cleanliness and organization on the job site is crucial. You’ll ensure proper storage of tools, materials, and equipment. Daily safety meetings are mandatory, and adherence to all workplace safety protocols is expected.

Learning and Documentation

This role is as much about learning as it is about doing. You’ll learn proper techniques for wire terminations, conduit layout, and electrical system components. Document your daily work progress and report any safety or operational issues to your supervisors.

Proactively support your team members in achieving project milestones and deadlines. Whether it’s fetching tools or offering a helping hand, your initiative can make a significant difference.
