Atek Communications is seeking a dedicated and skilled Fire Alarm Installation Technician to join our team in Durham, NC. This position focuses on the installation of fire alarm systems in commercial new construction projects within Durham and its neighboring cities, such as Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Cary. As a Fire Alarm Installer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of commercial buildings by installing and maintaining reliable fire alarm systems. Key Responsibilities

• Install fire alarm control panels and devices in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
• Pull and terminate fire alarm cables, ensuring compliance with national and local electrical codes.
• Mount notification appliances and initiation devices with precision and accuracy.
• Assist with system programming and testing to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with NFPA 72 standards.
• Maintain detailed point-to-point wiring documentation to facilitate future maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Coordinate with other trades to ensure effective placement of devices and ensure no interference with other installations.
• Perform pre-wire and trim-out phases, ensuring that installations meet project timelines and quality standards.
• Install conduit and cable pathways to support the infrastructure of fire alarm systems.
• Troubleshoot system wiring issues and resolve any discrepancies promptly to maintain project schedules.
• Maintain proper color coding and labeling of wires to ensure clarity and ease of future modifications.
• Assist with final testing and inspections to verify system performance and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Work with local Durham inspectors to ensure installations meet all regional safety and code requirements.
• Participate in the installation of systems in high-profile projects, such as the upcoming commercial development at Durham Innovation District.
• Ensure adherence to North Carolina’s specific fire safety codes and regulations.
• Engage in community outreach efforts to educate local businesses on fire safety and alarm system benefits.

Required Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in fire alarm system installation within a commercial setting.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical diagrams.
• In-depth knowledge of NFPA 72 requirements and their application in fire alarm systems.
• Understanding of different fire alarm circuit types and their appropriate applications.
• Experience with basic programming of fire alarm systems to ensure tailored functionality.
• Ability to use multimeters and other testing equipment to assess and verify system performance.
• Detail-oriented approach to documentation, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in records.
• Understanding of voltage drop calculations to ensure optimal system performance.
• Good communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and other trades on-site.
• Familiarity with local Durham building codes and fire safety regulations.
• Availability to work in various locations around Durham, including high-traffic areas such as downtown and Research Triangle Park.
