What You’ll Do as a Voice and Data Installer
As a Voice and Data Installer at Prime Partners, you will be at the forefront of setting up and maintaining the backbone of communication and data systems for our projects in Santa Rosa, CA. Our work spans across various commercial sites, ensuring that businesses have reliable access to the latest technologies. You will also have opportunities to work on additional projects in neighboring cities like Rohnert Park, Petaluma, and Windsor. This role is vital for the seamless integration of voice and data networks, and it requires a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality work.
Your Daily Tasks as a Voice and Data Installer
Install and Terminate Low-Voltage Cabling
You will install and terminate low-voltage cabling systems, including CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optics, which are essential for voice and data networks. This involves precise handling and installation in various commercial construction settings.
Mount and Configure Network Hardware
Your role will include mounting and configuring network hardware, such as patch panels, switches, and wireless access points. Ensuring these components are set up correctly is crucial for optimal network performance.
Perform Cable Testing and Troubleshooting
You’ll perform cable testing, certification, and troubleshooting to ensure that the systems run smoothly and efficiently. This task involves using specialized tools to diagnose and resolve any issues that arise.
Create and Maintain Cable Pathways
Creating cable pathways using raceways, conduits, and trays is part of your daily routine. You will ensure these pathways adhere to building and safety codes, providing a safe and organized environment for other construction activities.
Coordinate with Project Teams
Collaboration is key. You’ll work closely with project teams to meet installation deadlines and exceed client expectations. Your ability to communicate effectively will ensure projects run seamlessly.
Additional Daily Activities
- Conduct site surveys to plan and prepare for installations.
- Document installation processes and update project records to maintain accurate data.
- Provide on-site support and maintenance for existing installations, ensuring longevity and reliability.
What You Need to Be a Voice and Data Installer
Experience and Skills
You should have at least 2+ years of experience working with low-voltage systems, including structured cabling and network hardware. Your expertise should include:
- Proficiency with cable testing tools and troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to work efficiently in active construction environments.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
