What You’ll Do as a Cable Puller
As a Cable Puller at Prime Partners, you’ll be an essential part of our team working on multi-year projects in Bellevue, WA, with additional assignments in neighboring cities like Redmond, Kirkland, and Renton. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the seamless installation of cabling systems for various data centers and office networks. This position is hands-on and involves a mix of physical work, technical expertise, and coordination with other team members. You’ll be directly contributing to the reliability and efficiency of our clients’ communication systems, making it a vital role in our construction projects.
Your Daily Tasks as a Cable Puller
Install and Terminate Cables
Your day-to-day activities will primarily involve installing low-voltage cabling, including Ethernet and fiber optic cables. You’ll be responsible for terminating these cables with jacks and patch panels to ensure strong, reliable connections.
Set Up Cable Pathways
You’ll install cable pathways, such as trays and raceways, which are crucial for structured cabling systems. This task involves planning and executing the layout to ensure optimal functionality and ease of access.
Test and Certify Installations
Testing is a critical part of the job. You’ll use network testing equipment to perform testing and certification of the installed cables, ensuring they meet our high standards.
Document and Troubleshoot
Working closely with project managers, you’ll document cable runs and label them for system maps, ensuring everything is traceable and well-organized. You’ll also troubleshoot any network connectivity issues that arise during installation and final commissioning, applying your problem-solving skills to resolve these efficiently.
Additional Activities
Common additional tasks include assisting with the layout planning of new installations, maintaining an inventory of tools and materials, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols at all times.
What You Need to Be a Cable Puller
Experience and Skills
- 2+ Years of Experience: You should have at least two years of experience in the field, showcasing your hands-on abilities and familiarity with installing and maintaining cabling systems.
- Technical Proficiency: Must be proficient in handling and terminating Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optic cables. Experience with hand tools and cable testing devices is essential.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong capability to address and solve connectivity issues, ensuring minimal downtime during installations.
- Physical Stamina: You’ll often work in confined spaces and elevated environments, so physical fitness and the ability to work in various conditions are necessary.
Must-Have Skills
- Cable Management Techniques: Knowledge of professional installation techniques and standards.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in documenting and labeling cable runs for system maps.
