Core Data Center Tech Responsibilities

Key Duties and Regional Specifics

Your primary duties will include installing and maintaining server racks, routing and securing high-density cabling, setting up Power Distribution Units (PDUs), and performing cable testing using Fluke tools. Documentation of network layouts and connections is crucial, as is maintaining strict data center cleanliness standards. You’ll also engage in:

  • Advanced configuration of network switches and routers
  • Implementing and managing fiber optic connections
  • Conducting thermal management assessments
  • Utilizing monitoring tools for network performance analysis

Safety Protocols

Safety is paramount at IES Electric. You will adhere to rigorous safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), compliance with OSHA standards, and participation in regular safety drills and inspections.

Required Experience & Skills

Expertise You Bring

Applicants should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in data center environments, with a strong understanding of power and cooling systems, proficiency with cable testers, and the ability to interpret complex network configurations. Essential certifications include:

  • CompTIA Server+
  • BICSI Technician Certification
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Technical Knowledge

Adeptness in following precise documentation protocols is required. Familiarity with software tools for network design and management is highly beneficial.

Our Data Center Techs use a variety of tools daily, including:

  • Fluke network testers
  • Crimping and splicing tools
  • Cable management systems

You are expected to have personal tools such as screwdrivers and pliers, while the company provides specialized equipment like network analyzers and thermal imaging cameras.

Physical Requirements

What to Expect Physically

The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and work in various conditions, including confined spaces and raised floors. Safety gear, including hard hats and safety glasses, is mandatory.

Compensation Package
