The Journeyman Electrician Position

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

As a Journeyman Electrician at FSG, you will be entrusted with the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of renewable energy systems, primarily focusing on solar panels, energy storage systems, and inverters. Your day-to-day tasks will include routing and installing conduit (EMT, rigid) and wiring for high-voltage DC and AC systems, performing system testing, and commissioning solar arrays to ensure they meet optimal energy output and compliance with local regulations.

Core Journeyman Electrician Responsibilities

• Advanced Technical Duties: You will be responsible for integrating Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with building power systems, conducting preventive maintenance, and preparing detailed reports on system performance and maintenance activities. Additionally, you’ll engage in advanced troubleshooting of inverters and energy storage units, ensuring efficient operation.

• Regional Project Specifics: Projects in areas like Dinuba and Reedley often involve retrofitting older systems to accommodate modern renewable energy solutions, providing a unique opportunity to apply your skills in a transformative way.

• Safety Protocols: Adherence to safety protocols is paramount. You will implement rigorous safety checks, conduct regular site inspections, and ensure all team members utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Required Experience & Skills

To excel in this role, you must possess a valid California Journeyman Certification from the Department of Industrial Relations. A minimum of four years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician is required, with extensive knowledge of NEC and renewable energy codes, including solar and battery storage regulations. You should have hands-on experience with solar panel installations, inverters, high-voltage DC systems, and proficiency in using diagnostic tools like multimeters and megohmmeters. The ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and energy system diagrams is essential, along with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Tools & Equipment

Our Journeyman Electricians are expected to own basic personal tools, including wire strippers, pliers, and screwdrivers. FSG provides specialized equipment such as conduit benders, multimeters, and safety gear. You will also have access to the latest diagnostic tools to aid in system troubleshooting and optimization.

Physical Requirements

As a Journeyman Electrician, you should be prepared to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and work in various conditions, including rooftops and confined spaces. Safety gear, including hard hats, gloves, and safety glasses, is mandatory on all job sites to ensure your protection and compliance with FSG’s safety standards.
