Position Overview
As a Fire Sprinkler Designer, you will be responsible for developing, drafting, and coordinating fire sprinkler systems for commercial and industrial buildings. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to ensure systems meet all NFPA, CBC, and local fire codes while optimizing cost efficiency.
This position requires technical expertise in fire sprinkler design software, hydraulic calculations, and 3D modeling for successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Fire Sprinkler System Design
- Develop detailed shop drawings, layouts, and schematic diagrams for fire sprinkler systems.
- Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, AutoSprink, and Navisworks to create precise 3D system models.
- Perform hydraulic calculations to ensure compliance with NFPA 13 and applicable codes.
- Prepare detailed P&IDs, spool drawings, and installation plans for construction teams.
Project Coordination & Compliance
- Work alongside project managers, engineers, and contractors to coordinate system integration.
- Participate in trade coordination meetings to resolve conflicts with architectural and structural elements.
- Ensure designs meet CBC, UPC, NFPA, and local jurisdiction requirements.
- Develop submittals and permit drawings and manage the approval process.
Technical & Problem-Solving Expertise
- Identify cost-efficient design solutions while maintaining system effectiveness.
- Troubleshoot potential design conflicts before installation to prevent field issues.
- Recommend value engineering alternatives to optimize project efficiency and cost.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- 3+ years of experience in Fire Sprinkler system design (NICET Level II required).
- 4+ years of experience in fire sprinkler field construction.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoSprink, Revit, Navisworks, and Bluebeam.
- Ability to interpret 2D construction drawings and create accurate 3D models.
- Expertise in NFPA codes, hydraulic calculations, and compliance documentation.
- Strong organizational skills with a commitment to accuracy and meeting deadlines.
Preferred:
- NICET Level III certification (Highly preferred).
- Experience with fire alarm, clean agent suppression, and VESDA system design.
- Knowledge of aspirating smoke detection (VESDA) and mission-critical facilities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay:
- $85,000 - $105,000 per year (Based on experience)
Schedule:
- Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts
