The Fire Alarm Technician Position

Core Fire Alarm Technician Responsibilities

As a Fire Alarm Technician, your core responsibilities will include installing, inspecting, and maintaining fire alarm systems to ensure optimal performance and safety. You will work with components such as control panels, smoke detectors, and pull stations, ensuring they meet design specifications and safety standards. Advanced duties include programming complex fire alarm control panels, integrating systems with building automation, and conducting in-depth system diagnostics to resolve complex functionality issues. Our projects require adherence to local fire codes, and you will be expected to stay updated with any regional amendments. Safety is paramount; thus, strict adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment, is mandatory.

Required Experience & Skills

We are looking for candidates with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Fire Alarm Technician. Proficiency with fire alarm control panels and programming is essential, along with a strong understanding of local fire codes and NFPA standards. Candidates must possess excellent troubleshooting and maintenance skills and have strong communication and problem-solving abilities. Required certifications include NICET Level II or higher, OSHA 10, and a valid Florida Fire Alarm License. Familiarity with various fire alarm systems, such as Notifier, Siemens, and Honeywell, is highly beneficial.

Tools & Equipment

Our Fire Alarm Technicians use a variety of tools daily, including multimeters, wire strippers, and cable testers. Personal tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and voltage testers are required. Berks Electrical provides specialized equipment, including ladders, drills, and safety gear, ensuring you have the tools needed to perform your duties effectively and safely.

Physical Requirements

Fire Alarm Technicians must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces. The role involves frequent standing, bending, and kneeling. Safety gear, including hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots, is mandatory to ensure a safe working environment.
