Job Responsibilities
Installation and Maintenance
- Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optics.
- Perform installations in commercial environments such as offices, retail spaces, and industrial facilities.
- Route and secure cabling through conduits, cable trays, and pathways while maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
- Install racks, patch panels, and network hardware to meet project specifications.
Testing and Troubleshooting
- Conduct system testing using industry-standard tools like Fluke Network Testers to verify performance and compliance.
- Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues efficiently to minimize downtime.
Compliance and Standards
- Adhere to all Oregon state regulations, including the requirements for Limited Energy Technician Class A (LEA) or Class B (LEB) licenses.
- Follow BICSI, TIA/EIA, NEC, and OSHA guidelines to ensure high-quality installations and safety compliance.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with project managers, site supervisors, and team members to ensure timely and successful project completion.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to guide installation and troubleshooting processes.
- Communicate project updates and address any challenges effectively.
Additional Duties
- Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory for optimal performance and readiness.
- Stay up-to-date on industry advancements and best practices through training and certifications.
Qualifications
Required
- Oregon Limited Energy Technician License (LEA or LEB):
- LEA: Authorizes work on a wide range of low-voltage systems; requires 4,000 hours of supervised experience.
- LEB: Covers limited low-voltage systems; requires 2,000 hours of supervised experience.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred
- BICSI Certification: Installer 1 or higher is strongly recommended.
- Fiber Optic Certification: ETA Fiber Optics Installer (FOI) or equivalent is a plus.
- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification: Safety training for workplace compliance.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience installing and maintaining voice and data cabling systems.
- Experience in commercial environments such as offices, retail, or industrial facilities.
- Strong background in fiber optic cabling, termination, and troubleshooting.
Skills
- Proficient in structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and fiber optics.
- Ability to use testing and diagnostic tools effectively.
- Strong understanding of BICSI, TIA/EIA standards, and Oregon state regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work on ladders or in confined spaces.
- Comfortable working in diverse environmental conditions, including active construction sites.
