At InScope, located in the heart of St. Paul, MN, we are seeking a dedicated Fire Alarm Installation Technician to join our team and focus on commercial new construction projects. Our projects span the vibrant Twin Cities metro area, including neighboring cities such as Minneapolis, Maplewood, and Roseville. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of newly constructed commercial buildings by expertly installing and maintaining fire alarm systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Install fire alarm control panels and associated devices across commercial construction sites in the St. Paul area.
  • Pull and terminate fire alarm cables, ensuring compliance with regional electrical codes.
  • Mount notification appliances and initiation devices according to blueprint specifications.
  • Assist with the basic programming and system testing of fire alarm systems to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Maintain detailed point-to-point wiring documentation, essential for project records and future maintenance.
  • Coordinate with other trades on-site to ensure proper placement of devices and minimize disruptions.
  • Perform pre-wire and trim-out phases of fire alarm installation, adhering to project timelines.
  • Install conduit and cable pathways, ensuring they meet both local and national standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system wiring issues efficiently, maintaining project momentum.
  • Maintain proper color coding and labeling of all wiring for easy identification and safety.
  • Assist with final testing and inspections, ensuring systems are fully operational and meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to Minnesota state-specific installation standards and protocols.
  • Engage in ongoing communication with project managers to ensure project specifications are met.
  • Participate in a major upcoming project: the Riverfront Office Complex in downtown St. Paul, a high-profile development requiring advanced fire safety solutions.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience working with commercial fire alarm systems, preferably in a construction setting.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 72 requirements and familiarity with fire alarm circuit types.
  • Basic programming skills and the ability to use multimeters and other testing equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Understanding of voltage drop calculations and their importance in system design.
  • Good communication skills for effective coordination with team members and other trades.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota’s state-specific fire safety codes and regulations.
  • Experience working in diverse construction environments typical of the St. Paul area.
  • Ability to work effectively in the winter months, given Minnesota’s climate challenges.
