The Journeyman Electrician Position

Joining our team as a Journeyman Electrician means being part of a dynamic and supportive work environment. You will be responsible for a variety of tasks, from installing intricate electrical systems to troubleshooting and maintaining them. You’ll work alongside experienced electricians, engineers, and project managers, often leading a team of apprentices while ensuring high standards of safety and quality. Core Journeyman Electrician Responsibilities

• Installation and Maintenance: Install, maintain, and troubleshoot renewable energy systems, including solar panels, energy storage systems, and inverters for commercial properties.
• Conduit and Wiring: Route and install conduit (EMT, rigid) and wiring for high-voltage DC and AC systems.
• System Testing and Commissioning: Perform comprehensive system testing and commissioning for solar arrays, ensuring optimal energy output and compliance with local regulations.
• Collaboration and Design: Collaborate with engineers and project managers to design and implement energy-efficient electrical solutions.
• Battery Systems: Install and maintain battery energy storage systems (BESS) and integrate them with building power systems.
• Preventive Maintenance: Conduct preventive maintenance on renewable energy equipment, including replacing faulty components and ensuring proper grounding.
• Supervision and Training: Supervise apprentices, ensuring adherence to safety standards and proper installation techniques.
• Advanced Technical Duties: Execute advanced diagnostics using specialized equipment, implement cutting-edge energy solutions, and optimize system efficiency through innovative techniques.
• Regional Project Specifics: Engage in projects tailored to the unique energy needs of Bakersfield and surrounding areas, focusing on regional compliance and environmental considerations.
• Safety Protocols: Adhere to and enforce stringent safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and compliance with OSHA standards.

Required Experience & Skills

• Certification and Experience: Must have a valid California Journeyman Certification from the Department of Industrial Relations. A minimum of 4+ years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician is required.
• Technical Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of NEC and renewable energy codes, including solar and battery storage regulations. Experience with solar panel installations, inverters, and high-voltage DC systems.
• Diagnostic Tools: Proficiency with multimeters, megohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools is essential.
• Blueprints and Schematics: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and energy system diagrams.
• Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail for troubleshooting and system optimization.
• Essential Certifications: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety, CPR and First Aid Certification.

Tools & Equipment

• Daily Tools: Journeyman Electricians at FSG use a variety of tools daily, including wire strippers, conduit benders, voltage testers, and power drills.
• Personal Tools: Electricians are expected to provide their own basic hand tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, and socket sets.
• Company-Provided Equipment: FSG supplies specialized equipment like multimeters, megohmmeters, and safety gear.

Physical Requirements

• Lifting Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Working Conditions: Electricians work in various environments, including outdoor installations and confined spaces, often in varying weather conditions.
• Safety Gear: Proper safety gear, including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots, is mandatory.
