The Journeyman Electrician Position

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

As a Journeyman Electrician with Blink Charging, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems for EV charging stations. Your day-to-day tasks will involve working with service panels, transformers, and related components, ensuring they are installed with precision and efficiency.

You’ll work in diverse environments, from commercial parking lots to residential complexes, adapting to the unique requirements of each project. Our projects often include new installations and upgrades of existing infrastructure, requiring a keen eye for detail and adherence to stringent safety standards.

You’ll work closely with a team of skilled electricians, apprentices, and project managers, providing leadership and guidance to less experienced team members. Your role will involve supervising apprentices, ensuring their work complies with safety protocols and best practices.

Core Journeyman Electrician Responsibilities

  • Installation and Maintenance: Install and maintain electrical systems for EV charging stations, including service panels, transformers, and components.
  • Conduit Work: Accurately measure, cut, and bend conduit (EMT, rigid) for installations, ensuring precise alignment.
  • Wiring and Termination: Pull, label, and terminate wiring, maintaining clean and organized connections according to NEC and California Electric Code standards.
  • Load Calculations and Equipment Installation: Perform load calculations and install main service equipment for EV charging infrastructure.
  • System Testing and Compliance: Conduct system testing to verify performance, safety, and compliance with site specifications.
  • Collaboration and Scheduling: Work collaboratively with project managers and other trades to meet construction schedules and deliver quality installations.
  • Supervision and Mentorship: Supervise apprentices, ensuring adherence to safety and best practices while mentoring on EV-specific electrical systems.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of installations and site activities, submitting daily reports as required.

Advanced Technical Duties

  • Conduct advanced diagnostics on EV charging systems using specialized equipment.
  • Design and implement custom solutions for complex installations.
  • Integrate renewable energy sources with EV charging infrastructure.
  • Conduct detailed site assessments for optimal equipment placement.

Regional Project Specifics

In Los Alamitos and surrounding areas, our projects often involve collaboration with local businesses and municipalities to enhance public and private charging infrastructure.

Safety Protocols

Adherence to safety protocols is paramount. This includes regular safety briefings, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, and compliance with OSHA standards.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Certification: Active and valid journeyman electrician certification from the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR).
  • Knowledge and Experience: Strong knowledge of NEC and California Electric Code, with specific experience in EV charging station installations.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with conduit bending tools, multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
  • Leadership and Communication: Demonstrated leadership skills in supervising apprentices and managing on-site safety. Excellent communication and organizational skills to ensure project success.

Minimum Experience

  • 3-5 years minimum experience as a Journeyman Electrician.

Essential Certifications

  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • CPR/First Aid Certification

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
