Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Fiber Optic Technician (Cable Splicer) to join our team for a prevailing wage project in Santa Barbara, CA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables and systems, ensuring high-speed data transmission and optimal network performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain fiber optic systems and cables
• Perform fusion splicing and conduct low-loss splices
• Troubleshoot and repair faults in fiber optic networks
• Conduct regular maintenance routines and inspections
• Use OTDR, Power Meter, and Light Source equipment for testing and analysis
• Interpret and document test results for fiber optic links
• Implement premises cabling, including underground and underwater installations
• Ensure compliance with industry safety and quality standards
• Collaborate with other technical teams to optimize network performance
• Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum 2 years of experience in fiber optic installation and maintenance
• Proficiency in fiber optic splicing and OTDR testing
• Strong understanding of fiber optics systems and components
• Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and blueprints
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical training program completion in fiber optics or related field
• Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) certification from the Fiber Optic Association (FOA)
• Experience with telecommunications systems or electrical engineering
• Knowledge of industry standards and regulations

• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

• Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR)

• Fiber optic cleaning tools
• Hand and power tools
• Laptop for documentation and testing
