Your Daily Tasks as a Security Technician

As a Security Technician, your day kicks off with a briefing on your current project at one of our commercial sites. Your primary responsibility will be installing and configuring IP cameras, access control systems, and motion sensors. You’ll be adept at pulling and terminating low-voltage cables, ensuring they are properly labeled and routed neatly through conduits and cable trays. Mounting and aligning security cameras will be part of your routine, where you’ll ensure the field of view is perfectly adjusted.

In addition to these tasks, you will install and secure control panels, keypads, and card readers. Performing on-site functional testing of systems is crucial, including thorough power and connectivity checks to ensure everything is operating smoothly. You’ll frequently collaborate with general contractors and other trades, ensuring that all installations meet specific site requirements and standards. Keeping your tools, materials, and job site organized and tidy is essential to maintain efficiency and safety.

Common daily activities also include troubleshooting any system malfunctions and providing on-the-spot solutions. Regularly updating project documentation and communicating progress with your team and supervisors will be part of your routine, ensuring seamless project execution.

What You Need to Be a Security Technician
