The PLC Technician Position

Core PLC Technician Responsibilities
Lead the commissioning and startup of PLC and DDC control systems, ensuring seamless integration and reliable performance. Collaborate with engineers, clients, and electrical teams to solve automation challenges and deliver high-quality outcomes. Maintain detailed records of system modifications and operations, ensuring all project documentation aligns with current statuses. Provide technical leadership on-site, guiding subcontractors, enforcing quality control standards, and resolving issues efficiently. Travel to client sites as needed (up to 30%) to oversee project implementation and ensure operational success.
Advanced Technical Duties
- Develop and implement advanced control algorithms to optimize system performance.
- Conduct comprehensive diagnostics and troubleshooting of complex PLC networks.
- Integrate PLC systems with SCADA platforms for enhanced monitoring and control.
- Perform firmware updates and system upgrades to maintain cutting-edge technology.
Regional Project Specifics
- Engage in automation projects within regional manufacturing hubs in Gallatin and Goodlettsville.
- Lead control system installations for infrastructure projects in Lebanon and surrounding areas.
Safety Protocols
- Adhere to OSHA and company-specific safety standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments on project sites.
- Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce safety guidelines among team members.
Required Experience & Skills
Candidates must have 2+ years of experience with Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley Studio 5000, or similar platforms such as Inductive Automation Ignition or ICONICS. Proficiency in PLC installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting is essential, along with a strong understanding of HVAC control theory, electronics, and electrical circuits. Excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are critical for success.
Essential Certifications
- Certification in Siemens or Allen Bradley PLC programming.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification for safety compliance.
Required Technical Knowledge
- In-depth knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profibus).
