Cable Installer at Shelby Communications

Shelby Communications, located in Burnsville, MN, is seeking a Cable Installer to join our dynamic team. This position focuses on commercial projects in Burnsville and surrounding areas such as Lakeville, Apple Valley, and Savage. As a Cable Installer, you will gain hands-on experience in electrical installation, including distribution systems, lighting controls, and life safety systems. This entry-level position is a perfect opportunity for individuals enrolled in a state-approved apprenticeship program. You will work under the supervision of a journeyman electrician, learning essential techniques, blueprint reading, and safety procedures while contributing to projects like the upcoming Burnsville Civic Center expansion.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with electrical system installations and learn commercial wiring methods
• Support power distribution projects and help with lighting control programming
• Install conduit and cable pathways and maintain material inventory
• Operate lift equipment under supervision and assist with fire alarm installation
• Document daily work activities and support panel installation and testing
• Learn building automation basics and coordinate activities with other trades
• Assist with voice and data cabling specific to commercial projects in Burnsville
• Participate in the installation of energy-efficient systems for the new Burnsville Civic Center
• Ensure compliance with Minnesota state electrical codes and regulations
• Collaborate with team members on projects in neighboring cities like Savage and Apple Valley

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required and enrollment in an apprenticeship program
• Basic electrical knowledge and ability to read construction drawings
• Proficiency with hand tools and a valid driver’s license
• Physical ability to lift heavy materials and good communication skills
• Basic computer proficiency and commitment to ongoing education
• 1-5 years of experience in Voice Data work in a commercial setting
• Familiarity with local building codes and regulations in Burnsville
• Knowledge of regional safety standards and practices in Minnesota
