The Cable Tech Position

Joining our team as a Cable Tech means you’ll be at the forefront of delivering high-quality cabling solutions to our clients. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve installing, terminating, and testing a variety of cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optics. You’ll work in dynamic environments, ranging from bustling commercial sites to sophisticated industrial facilities. Core Cable Tech Responsibilities

As a Cable Tech, you’ll be responsible for installing structured cabling systems, terminating and testing fiber connections using advanced Fluke equipment, and ensuring network racks are installed and dressed with precision. You’ll lead small project teams, providing guidance and expertise to achieve project goals. Additional advanced duties include:

  • Designing and implementing cable tray systems tailored to specific project needs
  • Conducting detailed site surveys to develop accurate as-built plans
  • Performing advanced troubleshooting and repairs on complex network issues

Our projects often involve regional specifics, such as adhering to local codes and regulations in the Bay Area. Safety is paramount at Rex Moore Electric, and you’ll be expected to follow rigorous safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment for yourself and your team.

Required Experience & Skills

We are seeking candidates with extensive experience in structured cabling, particularly in terminating both fiber and copper wires. A strong knowledge of TIA/EIA cabling standards is essential, along with the ability to read and interpret network blueprints. You’ll need excellent organizational skills to manage your tools and inventory effectively. Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Cable Tech. Essential certifications include BICSI Technician and OSHA 10/30, alongside required technical knowledge in network architecture and cabling standards.

Tools & Equipment

Our Cable Techs rely on a range of specific tools daily, including cable testers, punch-down tools, and fiber optic splicers. Personal tools required include basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and wire strippers. The company provides advanced equipment like Fluke testers and network analyzers, ensuring you have the resources needed to perform at your best.

Physical Requirements

The role of a Cable Tech involves physical demands, including lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and working in various conditions, from confined spaces to elevated platforms. You’ll need to be comfortable working on ladders and scaffolding. Safety gear, including helmets, gloves, and safety glasses, is mandatory to ensure your protection on-site.

Compensation Package
