Your Daily Tasks as a Fiber Optics Technician

Install and Terminate Fiber Optic Cables

Your primary task will involve installing and terminating fiber optic cables across various environments. You’ll work in commercial and industrial settings, ensuring that each installation meets our stringent quality standards.

Fiber Splicing and Testing

You’ll perform splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fibers using state-of-the-art fusion splicers. Testing is crucial, and you’ll conduct Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) tests to verify signal integrity and resolve any issues with precision.

Routing and Securing Cables

Routing fiber optic cables through conduits, trays, and overhead systems will be part of your daily routine. You’ll ensure all installations comply with site standards and industry regulations, with a keen eye for detail to maintain organized and clean setups.

Troubleshooting and Collaboration

Troubleshooting will be a significant aspect of your role. You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, and other trades to integrate fiber optic systems into the existing network infrastructure. Your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with various stakeholders will be essential.

Documentation and Compliance

What You Need to Be a Fiber Optics Technician

Experience and Skills

To excel in this position, you’ll need a minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Fiber Optics Technician. Proficiency in fiber optic installation and splicing is essential, along with a strong understanding of OTDR testing and troubleshooting. Familiarity with industry standards such as TIA/EIA is crucial.
