The Cable Installer Position
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As a Cable Installer at Reliable Electric, your day will be a blend of technical skill application and collaboration. You’ll be tasked with installing structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optics, in various commercial and industrial settings. Your role will involve reading blueprints, coordinating with project teams, and ensuring that installations are completed to the highest standards.

Core Cable Installer Responsibilities
- Install Structured Cabling Systems: Implement Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optics solutions tailored to client needs.
- Terminate and Test Cables: Use precision tools and advanced testers to ensure optimal performance of copper and fiber optic cables.
- Mount and Organize Network Infrastructure: Secure and arrange network racks, patch panels, and cable trays for efficient and aesthetic installations.
- Troubleshoot Connectivity Issues: Identify and resolve issues during and post-installation to maintain uninterrupted service.
- Interpret Blueprints: Read construction diagrams to ensure accurate and compliant installations.
- Coordinate with Project Teams: Work seamlessly with other trades to integrate cabling into larger infrastructures.
- Maintain Installation Records: Document all work meticulously to uphold quality and safety standards.
Advanced Technical Duties
- Implement advanced cable management solutions to optimize network efficiency.
- Conduct in-depth testing and analysis of fiber optic systems using OTDR and other diagnostic tools.
- Integrate cabling systems with cutting-edge smart building technologies.
Safety Protocols
Adherence to stringent safety protocols is paramount. You’ll follow OSHA guidelines, use personal protective equipment (PPE), and participate in regular safety training sessions to ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
Required Experience & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years as a Cable Installer, with a proven track record in structured cabling.
- Certifications: BICSI Installer 1 or 2, FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficient with TIA/EIA cabling standards, advanced troubleshooting skills, and inventory management.
Tools & Equipment
Daily Tools
- Precision wire strippers, crimpers, and punch-down tools
- Fiber optic cleavers and fusion splicers
- Advanced cable testers and certification equipment
Personal Tools
Installers are expected to provide basic hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and measuring tapes. Reliable Electric supplies specialized equipment and testing devices to ensure quality installations.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Working Conditions: Work in various environments, including confined spaces and elevated platforms.
- Safety Gear: Hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots are mandatory on all job sites.

Compensation Package
- Salary Range: Competitive pay from $21.04-$27.97 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
