What You’ll Do as a Voice and Data Installer
As a Voice and Data Installer at Prime Partners, you’ll play a crucial role in our ongoing multi-year project in Springfield, MA, with additional projects in nearby cities such as Chicopee, Holyoke, and Westfield. This position is all about hands-on work, ensuring that voice and data networks are installed efficiently and operate seamlessly. You’ll be working directly on-site, contributing to the backbone of communication systems for commercial buildings. Your role is vital in creating infrastructure that businesses rely on for connectivity and communication.
Your Daily Tasks as a Voice and Data Installer
Install and Terminate Low-Voltage Cabling Systems
You’ll be responsible for installing and terminating low-voltage cabling systems, including CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optics. Your work will lay the groundwork for robust voice and data networks in commercial environments.
Mount and Configure Network Hardware
Your day will involve mounting and configuring essential network hardware such as patch panels, switches, and wireless access points. Ensuring these components are correctly installed is key to maintaining a high-performing network.
Perform Cable Testing and Troubleshooting
You’ll conduct cable testing and certification to ensure that all systems are running at optimal performance levels. Troubleshooting any issues that arise will be part of your daily routine, requiring keen analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
Create and Maintain Cable Pathways
Creating cable pathways using raceways, conduits, and trays while adhering to building and safety codes is another critical task. This ensures that installations are both effective and compliant with regulations.
Collaborate with Project Teams
Working closely with project teams to meet installation deadlines and client expectations is paramount. Your ability to coordinate with different departments and adapt to project needs will drive the success of our installations.
Additional Daily Activities
- Conduct site surveys to prepare for upcoming installations.
- Document installation processes and maintain accurate records.
- Assist in training junior installers, sharing your expertise and guiding them through practical challenges.
What You Need to Be a Voice and Data Installer
Proven Experience and Skills
To excel in this role, you need at least 2+ years of experience in the field as a Voice and Data Installer. Your hands-on abilities with low-voltage systems and structured cabling will be instrumental in your daily tasks.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong knowledge of cable testing tools and troubleshooting techniques.
