What You’ll Do as a Lead Cable Technician
At Prime Partners, the Lead Cable Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of our structured cabling projects in Lowell, MA, and surrounding areas such as Chelmsford, Dracut, and Tewksbury. As a Lead Cable Technician, you will oversee the installation and maintenance of network cabling systems in large commercial environments. Your expertise will guide projects from the initial layout phase through to final certification. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys problem-solving, leading a team, and working in a hands-on capacity.
Your Daily Tasks as a Lead Cable Technician
As a Lead Cable Technician, your day will be filled with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
Oversee Structured Cabling Projects
You will manage structured cabling projects end-to-end, ensuring that everything from pre-construction layout to final certification is executed flawlessly. This involves leading crews in the precise pulling, routing, and terminating of CAT5e/CAT6 and fiber optic cables.
Installation and Termination
Day-to-day, you’ll be hands-on with terminating and labeling patch panels, jacks, and fiber enclosures. Your expertise in testing and certifying all cabling using Fluke or equivalent test equipment will ensure we meet the highest standards.
Infrastructure Installation
You’ll be responsible for installing cable management infrastructure, including ladder racks, cable trays, J-hooks, and conduit systems, all while adhering to blueprint specifications.
Coordination and Documentation
You’ll coordinate with IT, electrical, and general contractor teams to ensure low-voltage work aligns seamlessly with construction timelines. Maintaining QA/QC checklists and redlines for project documentation will be part of your routine to ensure project accuracy and compliance.
Additional Responsibilities
You will also be involved in troubleshooting and resolving any on-site cabling issues, conducting site surveys, and ensuring compliance with safety standards at all times.
What You Need to Be a Lead Cable Technician
Experience and Skills
To excel in this role, you’ll need proven experience in structured cabling leadership roles on commercial projects, with at least 4+ years in the field as a Lead Cable Technician. Familiarity with BICSI installation methods, TIA/EIA standards, and Fluke DTX/DSX certification tools is essential.
Hands-On Abilities
Your ability to read and mark up blueprints, coupled with strong communication and team leadership skills, will set you apart. Experience with fiber fusion splicing and OTDR is a plus. Safety is paramount, so having OSHA 30 and manufacturer certifications (such as Panduit, Leviton, CommScope) will be beneficial.
Compensation
At Prime Partners, we offer a competitive salary range of $31.69-$40.06 per hour, depending on experience.
