What You’ll Do as a Journeyman Electrician
As a Journeyman Electrician at Prime Partners, you’ll be a key player in our multi-year project in Santa Cruz, CA, with additional work opportunities in the neighboring areas of Capitola, Scotts Valley, and Watsonville. Your role involves harnessing your technical expertise and hands-on skills to build and maintain reliable electrical systems. Day-to-day, you’ll tackle various electrical challenges, ensuring our projects stay on track and meet the highest industry standards.
Your Daily Tasks as a Journeyman Electrician
Installation and Maintenance of Electrical Systems
Your primary responsibility will be to install and maintain commercial electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, lighting fixtures, and power circuits. This involves accurately measuring, cutting, and bending conduit (EMT, rigid) for system installations. Your expertise in wire pulling, labeling, and termination will ensure all connections are neat and secure.
Troubleshooting and Compliance
You’ll troubleshoot electrical issues using tools like multimeters, making sure that all circuits meet NEC code requirements. Your ability to diagnose and solve problems quickly will be crucial in maintaining system integrity and safety.
Collaboration and Supervision
Working collaboratively with other trades, you’ll plan and execute electrical installations within construction schedules. You’ll also supervise apprentices, providing them with guidance on proper techniques and safety practices. By maintaining organized and clean job sites, you’ll adhere to all safety and operational standards, ensuring a smooth workflow.
Additional Tasks
In addition to these core tasks, you will be involved in testing and inspecting electrical systems to ensure functionality and safety. You’ll also prepare and interpret blueprints and technical diagrams, translating them into practical installations. Regularly updating project documentation and reports will also be a part of your routine to keep the team informed of progress and any potential issues.
What You Need to Be a Journeyman Electrician
To excel in this role, you must hold a valid journeyman electrician license and possess an in-depth knowledge of NEC codes. Proficiency with conduit bending and electrical tools is essential, as are strong troubleshooting skills. Leadership abilities are crucial for managing apprentices and teams effectively. You should have 3-5 years of experience in the field as a Journeyman Electrician.
