Estimator at Prime Partners

What You’ll Do as an Estimator

As an Estimator at Prime Partners, you’ll play a crucial role in shaping our projects in Durham, NC, and surrounding areas such as Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Cary. Your expertise will directly impact our project’s success by ensuring accurate cost assessments and competitive bids. You’ll be integral to our team, working on multi-year projects that set the standard for construction excellence. If you’re ready to dive into the world of numbers and blueprints, this role is for you.

Your Daily Tasks as an Estimator

Every day as an Estimator, you’ll start with detailed plan take-offs, meticulously gathering vendor quotes and calculating quantities. Your role involves interpreting product specifications and pricing for our large-scale projects, ensuring every detail aligns with our standards. You’ll collaborate closely with team members to create and manage RFIs, offering value engineering recommendations throughout the bidding process.

Additionally, you’ll prepare comprehensive bid proposals and cost estimates by analyzing site/civil drawings and project requirements. Your communication skills will be essential as you maintain clear lines between project managers, vendors, and subcontractors. Ensuring accurate and competitive bids is your goal, all while upholding a high standard of safety and regulatory compliance on all job sites.

Your tasks also include:

  • Reviewing and analyzing subcontractor bids for accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Conducting site visits to gather essential data and verify field conditions.
  • Participating in pre-bid meetings to understand project nuances and client expectations.

What You Need to Be an Estimator

To excel in this role, you’ll need intermediate knowledge and hands-on experience in commercial Site Development and Earthwork, ideally with prior experience at a Site Development contractor. While a degree in Civil Engineering is advantageous, it is not mandatory. Proficiency in MS Outlook and the full MS Office suite is essential, and familiarity with AGTEK or similar dirt take-off software is highly desired.

Key qualifications include:

  • 3-10 years of experience in the field as an Estimator.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines.
  • Hands-on abilities with a focus on practical application of skills.
