What You’ll Do as an Electrical Estimator

As an Electrical Estimator at Prime Partners, your role will be central to the success of our multi-year projects in Fairfield, CA, and surrounding areas such as Vacaville, Suisun City, and Vallejo. You’ll be the cornerstone of our pre-construction phase, ensuring that all electrical components of our commercial construction projects are accurately estimated and accounted for. Your expertise will directly influence our project planning, budgeting, and execution.

Your Daily Tasks as an Electrical Estimator

Crafting Precise Cost Estimates

Your primary responsibility will be to prepare detailed cost estimates for electrical systems in new commercial construction projects. You’ll meticulously analyze project plans, specifications, and requirements to determine the labor, material, and equipment costs necessary for each project.

Identifying Value Engineering Opportunities

You’ll be tasked with identifying value engineering opportunities that can help optimize project costs without sacrificing quality. This involves a keen eye for detail and a strategic approach to balancing cost and functionality.

Collaborating with Key Stakeholders

Your role involves collaboration with project managers, engineers, and suppliers. Gathering accurate data is critical, and you’ll ensure that all estimates are comprehensive and reflect current market conditions.

Maintaining Detailed Documentation

You’ll maintain detailed records of estimates, proposals, and bid documentation. This is crucial for transparency and future reference, ensuring that our projects proceed smoothly from conception to completion.

Participating in Pre-Bid Meetings and Site Visits

You’ll actively participate in pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits to assess project scope and conditions. This hands-on approach allows you to gather real-world insights into each project’s unique challenges and opportunities.

Staying Updated on Industry Trends

To stay competitive, you’ll keep abreast of industry trends, pricing, and advancements in electrical systems and construction techniques. This knowledge ensures that our estimates are both current and competitive.

Additional Daily Activities

You’ll also be involved in reviewing past project performances to refine future estimates, negotiating with suppliers to secure the best prices, and training junior estimators to develop their skills.

What You Need to Be an Electrical Estimator

Experience and Expertise

You’ll need proven experience in electrical estimating for commercial construction projects, with at least 3+ years in the field. Your strong knowledge of electrical systems, materials, and labor costs will be essential.

Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in estimating software such as Accubid, McCormick, or Bluebeam is a must. You’ll also need the ability to analyze project documentation and provide accurate, competitive bids. Excellent attention to detail and the capacity to meet tight deadlines are crucial skills for success.

Hands-On Abilities

Your hands-on abilities will be key. You’ll need to work efficiently under pressure, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
