What You’ll Do as a Data Center Technician
Welcome to Prime Partners! As a Data Center Technician, you’ll play a critical role in our ongoing and upcoming projects in Tallahassee, FL, and surrounding areas such as Quincy, Crawfordville, and Monticello. Your main responsibility will be to ensure the seamless operation and maintenance of our data centers. This is a hands-on job where you’ll be involved in the nuts and bolts of data center infrastructure, working closely with your team to maintain and optimize our systems. Your work will directly contribute to the efficiency and reliability of data operations, vital to our clients’ success.
Your Daily Tasks as a Data Center Technician
Install and Configure Infrastructure
Your day will often start with installing and configuring data center infrastructure. This includes setting up servers, managing cabling, and ensuring power distribution units are correctly installed. You’ll work on commercial construction projects that demand precision and efficiency.
Perform Routine Maintenance and Testing
Keeping our critical systems up and running is a priority. You’ll conduct routine maintenance and testing to ensure everything operates smoothly. This includes checking hardware functionality, optimizing system performance, and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
Manage Cable and Cooling Systems
A significant part of your role involves managing cable systems and optimizing airflow for efficient cooling. You’ll ensure that cables are organized and labeled, which helps in maintaining an efficient system and aids in future troubleshooting and upgrades.
Document and Coordinate
Accurate documentation of configurations, system changes, and performance metrics is crucial. You’ll keep detailed records for project documentation, which helps in maintaining high standards and meeting operational requirements. You’ll also coordinate with project stakeholders to ensure that data center setups align with operational needs and industry standards.
Additional Tasks
Other common tasks include monitoring system alerts, performing software updates, and participating in team meetings to discuss ongoing projects and new initiatives. You’ll also be responsible for inventory management, ensuring that all necessary components are available and in good condition.
What You Need to Be a Data Center Technician
Experience and Skills
To excel in this role, you should have at least 3+ years of experience as a Data Center Technician. You must be well-versed in data center hardware, cabling, and power systems. Knowledge of best practices for system reliability and efficiency is essential, as is the ability to manage multiple installations in high-pressure environments.
