Day-to-Day Responsibilities of a Data Center Technician

You’ll be responsible for installing and configuring data center infrastructure, including servers, cabling, and power distribution units. Core Data Center Technician Responsibilities

  • Installation and Configuration: Implement and configure cutting-edge data center infrastructure, including servers, cabling, and power distribution units, tailored to commercial construction projects.
  • Maintenance and Testing: Conduct routine maintenance and comprehensive testing to ensure the reliability and performance of critical systems.
  • Cable Management and Airflow Optimization: Oversee cable management systems and design airflow solutions to optimize cooling efficiency.
  • Documentation and Coordination: Maintain detailed records of system configurations, changes, and performance metrics. Collaborate with project stakeholders to ensure that setups meet operational requirements and industry standards.
  • Advanced Technical Duties: Engage in troubleshooting complex system issues, perform network diagnostics, and execute system upgrades as needed.
  • Regional Project Specifics: Adapt strategies to accommodate the specific needs of projects in the Indianapolis region and its surrounding areas.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a Data Center Technician, demonstrating robust experience with data center hardware, cabling, and power systems.
  • Certifications: Essential certifications include CompTIA A+, Network+, and a certification in data center design or management.
  • Technical Knowledge: Profound understanding of system reliability best practices, efficiency optimization, and the ability to manage multiple installations under high-pressure conditions.

Tools & Equipment

  • Daily Tools: Use a spectrum of tools including network cable testers, fiber optic tools, power drills, and screwdrivers.
  • Personal Tools: Required personal tools include a basic set of hand tools and a multimeter.
  • Company-Provided Equipment: Prime Partners supplies specialized tools and equipment, such as server lifting devices and thermal imaging cameras.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Operate in various conditions, including tight spaces and elevated platforms.
  • Safety Gear: Required safety gear includes hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
