Cable Technician Position Overview
Daily Responsibilities and Work Environment
As a Cable Technician at Prime Partners, your role will be dynamic and engaging. Each day, you will work on a variety of tasks, from installing and testing structured cabling systems to troubleshooting complex network issues. You will work in diverse environments, including new construction sites and existing commercial buildings. Your ability to adapt to different settings and project demands will be critical.

Core Cable Technician Responsibilities
- Installation and Testing: Install, test, and troubleshoot structured cabling systems, including CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cables in commercial settings.
- Terminations and Certifications: Perform cable terminations on patch panels, jacks, and network devices. Use industry-standard tools to certify cable performance and compliance.
- Pathway Installation: Install cable pathways such as conduits, raceways, and J-hooks, adhering to safety codes and blueprints.
- Advanced Technical Duties: Engage in complex fiber optic splicing, perform advanced network diagnostics, and integrate cutting-edge technology solutions into existing infrastructures.
- Regional Project Specifics: Collaborate on projects in Columbus and neighboring areas, adapting to local requirements and specifications.
- Safety Protocols: Strictly adhere to safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment at all times by using personal protective equipment and following OSHA guidelines.
Qualifications
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years as a Cable Technician with hands-on experience in structured cabling installations and troubleshooting.
- Certifications: BICSI Technician Certification, OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification, and Fiber Optic Association (FOA) Certification are preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in cable testing, termination, and certification procedures, with the ability to interpret blueprints and navigate active commercial construction sites.
Tools & Equipment
- Daily Tools: Cable testers, punch-down tools, fiber optic splicers, and crimping tools.
- Personal Tools: Essential hand tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, and wire strippers.
- Company-Provided Equipment: Ladders, safety gear, and advanced testing equipment are provided to ensure you have the resources needed to perform efficiently.
Physical Requirements
- Lifting Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
- Working Conditions: Work often occurs in diverse environments, including confined spaces and heights, requiring physical agility and endurance.
- Safety Gear: Must wear safety glasses, hard hats, and steel-toed boots at all times on site.
