Cable Technician Position Overview
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As a Cable Technician at Prime Partners, you’ll engage in a dynamic work environment where no two days are the same. Your primary responsibilities will include installing, testing, and troubleshooting structured cabling systems such as CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cables. You’ll work on both new constructions and upgrades in existing facilities, ensuring that all installations meet industry standards and client specifications.

Core Cable Technician Responsibilities
- Install, test, and troubleshoot structured cabling systems, including CAT5e, CAT6, and fiber optic cables, in commercial environments.
- Perform cable terminations on patch panels, jacks, and network devices.
- Conduct cable testing and certification using industry-standard tools to ensure performance and compliance.
- Install cable pathways such as conduits, raceways, and J-hooks, following safety codes and blueprints.
- Collaborate with project managers and clients to meet deadlines and maintain quality standards.
- Advanced duties include configuring network equipment, diagnosing complex connectivity issues, and implementing network upgrades.
- Projects will frequently involve large-scale installations in high-traffic areas, requiring precision and efficiency.
- Adhere to OSHA safety standards and company safety protocols to maintain a secure work environment.
Qualifications
To qualify for this role, candidates must possess:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Cable Technician.
- Hands-on experience with structured cabling installations and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in cable testing, termination, and certification procedures.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and work in active commercial construction sites.
- Essential certifications such as BICSI Technician Certification or equivalent.
- Strong technical knowledge of network infrastructure and connectivity solutions.
Tools & Equipment
- Daily tool usage includes cable testers, punch-down tools, and crimpers.
- Personal tools required: basic hand tools, multi-meter, and a cordless drill.
- Prime Partners provides specialized equipment such as fusion splicers and fiber optic testers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
- Work conditions include indoor and outdoor environments, often at construction sites.
- Safety gear, including hard hats, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots, is mandatory.
