What You’ll Do as a Building Automation Technician

As a Building Automation Technician at Prime Partners, you’ll be at the heart of our exciting projects in Philadelphia and its neighboring cities like Camden, Cherry Hill, and King of Prussia. Your role will be vital in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of building systems across a range of projects, making a significant impact on the way modern buildings operate. You’ll be responsible for implementing and maintaining advanced automation systems that keep buildings comfortable, energy-efficient, and safe.

Your Daily Tasks as a Building Automation Technician

Program and Commission Building Automation Systems

Your day will involve programming and commissioning building automation systems, ensuring they are fully operational and optimized. This includes setting up network configurations and integrating equipment to create cohesive and efficient systems.

Troubleshoot and Configure DDC Controls

You’ll regularly troubleshoot and configure Direct Digital Controls (DDC) for HVAC and other mechanical systems. This task requires a keen eye for detail and a problem-solving mindset to ensure all systems are functioning as they should.

Collaborate and Communicate

Working closely with project managers, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping projects on track, ensuring they meet deadlines and stay within budget. Effective communication with supervisors, team members, and clients is essential to ensure smooth operations.

Conduct On-Site Troubleshooting and Documentation

Part of your role involves on-site troubleshooting for control systems and mechanical integrations. You’ll also document installation processes meticulously, maintaining accurate project records to support ongoing and future work.

Adhere to Safety Protocols

Safety is paramount. You’ll adhere to all safety protocols and ensure compliance with relevant codes and regulations, creating a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.

Additional Daily Activities

  • Routine system checks and preventative maintenance
  • Calibration of sensors and controls
  • Assisting in the training of junior technicians and new team members

What You Need to Be a Building Automation Technician

To excel in this role, you’ll need 2-7 years of experience as a Building Automation Technician. Experience with systems such as Niagara, Tridium, Distech, Alerton, or JCI Metasys is crucial. You’ll also need:

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical and networking systems
  • Familiarity with HVAC operations and DDC systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and navigate construction sites

Hands-on abilities and a practical approach to problem-solving will serve you well in this dynamic role.

Compensation
