What You’ll Do as a Building Automation Technician

As a Building Automation Technician at Prime Partners, you’ll play a crucial role in our ambitious multi-year projects in Las Cruces, NM, and surrounding areas, including Mesilla, Anthony, and Radium Springs. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the seamless integration and operation of building automation systems. You’ll be at the heart of our operations, working hands-on to enhance the efficiency and functionality of our projects. This role offers a dynamic and practical work environment where your expertise in building automation will be pivotal.

Your Daily Tasks as a Building Automation Technician

Programming and Commissioning

Your day will often start with programming and commissioning building automation systems. You’ll be configuring Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems for HVAC and other mechanical systems, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently. This involves working closely with software tools and ensuring systems meet design specifications.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

Expect to spend significant time troubleshooting and maintaining building automation systems. You’ll be the go-to expert for diagnosing and resolving issues with network configurations and equipment integration. This requires sharp problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail to ensure minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.

Collaboration and Documentation

You’ll work alongside project managers to ensure projects stay on track, both time-wise and budget-wise. Effective communication with supervisors, team members, and clients is crucial. Additionally, you’ll document installation processes meticulously and maintain accurate project records, which are essential for project continuity and compliance.

Additional Daily Activities

  • Conducting on-site evaluations to assess system performance and make necessary adjustments.
  • Performing regular safety checks and adhering to all safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.

What You Need to Be a Building Automation Technician

Experience and Proficiency

To excel in this role, you should have 2-7 years of experience in the field as a Building Automation Technician. Familiarity with systems such as Niagara, Tridium, Distech, Alerton, or JCI Metasys is crucial. You’ll need to be proficient in troubleshooting electrical and networking systems and should have a strong understanding of HVAC operations and DDC systems.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate effective collaboration.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs. and navigate construction sites safely.
