What You’ll Do as a Building Automation Technician

As a Building Automation Technician at Prime Partners, you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring our construction projects in Baltimore, MD, and its neighboring cities like Towson, Columbia, and Ellicott City, are equipped with cutting-edge automation systems. Your role is pivotal in the seamless integration and maintenance of these systems. We’re looking for someone who can dive right into our multi-year project and bring expertise and efficiency to the table. Your work will be hands-on, requiring a blend of technical skills and problem-solving abilities to keep our systems running smoothly.

Your Daily Tasks as a Building Automation Technician

Program and Commission Systems

Every day, you’ll be programming and commissioning building automation systems. This involves setting up network configurations and integrating various pieces of equipment to work in harmony. It’s about making sure everything communicates correctly and efficiently.

Troubleshoot and Configure Controls

You’ll be tasked with troubleshooting and configuring DDC controls specifically for HVAC systems and other related mechanical components. This will often require you to be on-site, diagnosing issues, and implementing solutions swiftly to keep projects on track.

Collaborate and Communicate

Working closely with project managers is key to ensure that all projects are executed timely and within the set budget. Effective communication with your supervisors, team members, and clients is essential to maintain transparency and alignment.

Document and Maintain Records

Part of your routine will include documenting installation processes and maintaining detailed project records. This not only helps in tracking progress but also ensures compliance and quality assurance across the board.

Safety and Compliance

Adhering to safety protocols is non-negotiable. You’ll ensure that all your tasks comply with relevant codes and regulations, maintaining a safe working environment for everyone involved.

Additional Daily Activities

Regularly calibrating sensors and actuators, performing routine maintenance checks, and updating system software will also be part of your daily activities. These tasks ensure the longevity and reliability of the systems you manage.

What You Need to Be a Building Automation Technician

Experience and Technical Skills

We’re looking for candidates with 2-7 years of experience in the field, specifically with systems like Niagara, Tridium, Distech, Alerton, or JCI Metasys. You should be proficient in troubleshooting both electrical and networking systems and familiar with the operations of HVAC and DDC systems.

Hands-On Abilities

Your ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams is crucial. You should be comfortable working in a construction environment, including the physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Communication Skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential since you will be liaising with various stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
