What You’ll Do as a Security Technician
As a Security Technician at Oak Electrical, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of our commercial projects in Riverview, FL, and the surrounding areas, including Brandon, Valrico, and Plant City. Your primary responsibility will be to install, configure, and maintain advanced security systems at various commercial job sites. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be directly involved with cutting-edge technology, working alongside a skilled team to secure our clients’ properties.
Your Daily Tasks as a Security Technician
Installation and Configuration
Your day will begin with the installation and configuration of security systems, including IP cameras, access control systems, motion detectors, and alarm systems. You’ll be expected to pull, terminate, and label low-voltage cables, ensuring that every installation complies with project specifications and industry standards.
Troubleshooting and Testing
A significant part of your role involves troubleshooting and testing security systems to ensure optimal functionality. You’ll perform comprehensive on-site tests to verify system connectivity and power reliability. Identifying and resolving any issues quickly will be key to maintaining our high standards of service.
Collaboration and Documentation
You’ll work closely with project managers and general contractors to ensure installations align with project timelines. Maintaining accurate records and documentation of all installations will be crucial. You’ll also provide training to clients on basic system operations and troubleshooting, ensuring they are comfortable and confident in using their new systems.
Additional Daily Activities
- Conduct routine maintenance checks on installed systems to preemptively identify potential issues.
- Respond to emergency service calls to resolve urgent security system failures or interruptions.
- Assist in the planning and layout of new system installations by evaluating blueprints and site plans.
What You Need to Be a Security Technician
Experience and Skills
To excel in this role, you should have 1-3 years of experience as a Security Technician. You need a solid understanding of security system installations and must be adept at cable routing and termination. Proficiency in troubleshooting both hardware and software issues is essential, as well as familiarity with IP networking and camera systems. Strong communication and organizational skills are also a must as you’ll frequently interact with clients and team members alike.
