What You’ll Do as a Cable Installer
As a Cable Installer at Oak Electrical, you’ll be at the forefront of our significant projects in and around Wesley Chapel, FL. You will play a crucial role in setting up and maintaining the structured cabling systems that are fundamental to our commercial and industrial clients. Our current multi-year project in Wesley Chapel, along with additional projects in nearby cities such as Zephyrhills, Land O’ Lakes, and Lutz, FL, requires skilled cable installers who can ensure seamless connectivity. Day-to-day, you’ll be working hands-on with a variety of cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optics, to create robust and efficient network infrastructures.
Your Daily Tasks as a Cable Installer

Install Structured Cabling Systems
Your main responsibility will be installing structured cabling systems to facilitate communication networks. You’ll be working in commercial and industrial environments, ensuring that every cable is installed with precision. -
Terminate and Test Cables
You’ll use precision tools and advanced testers to terminate and test both copper and fiber optic cables, ensuring they meet all necessary performance standards. -
Organize Network Components
This involves mounting, securing, and organizing network racks, patch panels, and cable trays. You’ll dress and bundle cables neatly to comply with site-specific and industry standards, ensuring a clean and efficient setup. -
Troubleshoot Connectivity Issues
Identifying and resolving connectivity issues will be part of your routine, both during and after installations. Your problem-solving skills will be essential for maintaining system integrity. -
Interpret Blueprints and Diagrams
You’ll read and interpret blueprints and construction diagrams to perform accurate installations, coordinating with project teams to integrate cabling systems into larger infrastructure projects. -
Maintain Records and Protocols
Keeping detailed installation records and adhering to quality and safety protocols will be essential to your role. This ensures that the project standards are maintained, and any issues can be quickly addressed. -
Common Activities
Regularly update project managers on progress and potential challenges. Conduct site surveys to assess the layout and plan installations effectively. Collaborate with other team members to ensure seamless integration of systems into the overall project.
What You Need to Be a Cable Installer
To succeed in this role, you should have extensive experience with structured cabling and expertise in terminating and testing fiber optics. Familiarity with TIA/EIA cabling standards is crucial, along with strong troubleshooting skills. Organizational ability is essential for managing tools and inventory effectively.

A minimum of 3-5 years in the field as a Cable Installer is necessary. -
Must-Have Skills
Proficiency in using precision tools, advanced cable testers, and reading construction diagrams. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. -
Hands-On Abilities
You must be comfortable with physical tasks, such as climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and lifting equipment up to 50 lbs.
