The Fire Alarm Technician Position

As a Fire Alarm Technician at MMR Group, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding lives and property through the installation and maintenance of fire alarm systems. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include installing, inspecting, and troubleshooting fire alarm systems across various environments such as residential, commercial, and industrial settings. Core Fire Alarm Technician Responsibilities

  • Installation and Maintenance: Install, inspect, and troubleshoot fire alarm systems, ensuring all devices are mounted and wired according to layout plans. Perform system testing and adjustments to ensure proper functionality and compliance with site requirements.
  • Cabling and Integration: Route and secure low-voltage cabling in ceilings and walls. Coordinate with general contractors to integrate fire alarm systems with other building systems.
  • Documentation and Training: Document work progress and maintain accurate records of installations and repairs. Provide basic on-site training for end-users on operating fire alarm systems.
  • Advanced Technical Duties: Perform complex troubleshooting for advanced fire alarm systems, program fire panels for custom configurations, conduct system audits for large-scale projects, and provide technical support for networked fire alarm systems.
  • Regional Project Specifics: Engage in regional projects, adapting to local building codes and regulations, and working on high-profile developments in Sarasota and surrounding areas.
  • Safety Protocols: Adhere to stringent safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment, fall protection, and compliance with OSHA standards.

Required Experience & Skills

To be a successful Fire Alarm Technician with MMR Group, you should possess the following experience and skills:

  • Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years as a Fire Alarm Technician, with hands-on experience in fire alarm systems and control panels.
  • Certifications: NICET Level II certification in Fire Alarm Systems is essential. Additional certifications such as FASA/BASA are preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of local fire codes and regulations, ability to troubleshoot and resolve system issues, and familiarity with programming fire panels.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills, attention to detail in documentation, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Tools & Equipment

  • Daily Tools: Fire Alarm Technicians use a variety of tools daily, including multimeters, wire strippers, and cable testers.
  • Personal Tools: Technicians are expected to have their own set of basic hand tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches.
