The Data Center Technician Position

As a Data Center Technician at MMR Group, you’ll be immersed in a stimulating environment where every day presents new opportunities to expand your skills and knowledge. Core Data Center Technician Responsibilities

As a Data Center Technician, you’ll be tasked with a range of essential duties that ensure the efficiency and reliability of our data centers:

  • Installation and Alignment: Install server racks and cabinets with precision, ensuring proper alignment and secure anchoring.
  • Cabling Management: Route and secure high-density cabling within racks, overhead trays, and under-floor systems, maintaining a neat and organized setup.
  • Power Distribution: Mount and connect power distribution units (PDUs), managing cable pathways to facilitate a clean and efficient environment.
  • Technical Testing: Perform advanced cable testing and labeling to ensure accuracy in data center documentation.
  • Collaboration and Scheduling: Work closely with project managers and other trades to meet tight installation schedules.
  • Standards Compliance: Uphold strict cleanliness and operational standards within the data center environment.
  • Inventory Management: Assist with material and inventory management to support current and future projects.
  • Advanced Technical Duties: Conduct thermal imaging to assess equipment efficiency, perform network configuration testing, and manage virtualized environments.
  • Regional Project Specifics: Engage with local projects that require tailored solutions based on geographic demands and client specifications.
  • Safety Protocols: Adhere to industry safety standards, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OSHA regulations.

Required Experience & Skills

To excel in this role, you must have a solid foundation of experience and skills:

  • Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years as a Data Center Technician, with a proven track record in data center environments.
  • Certifications: Essential certifications include CompTIA A+, Network+, and BICSI Installer 2.
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in using cable testers, understanding power and cooling systems, and the ability to interpret and follow detailed documentation.
  • Documentation Skills: Ability to maintain precise and accurate documentation of all installations and configurations.

Tools & Equipment

Our Data Center Technicians rely on a variety of tools and equipment to perform their duties effectively:

  • Daily Tools: Cable testers, crimping tools, punch-down tools, and network analyzers are essential for daily tasks.

Physical Requirements
