Cable Installer at Miller Electric

Miller Electric is seeking a skilled Data Center Cable Installation Technician to join our team in Bangor, ME. Our company is renowned for its expertise in mission-critical facilities across the region, including nearby cities such as Brewer, Orono, and Hampden. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity and performance of high-performance cabling systems within data centers. The successful candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of data center infrastructure, including structured cabling, fiber optics, and cooling separation. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, with some projects requiring off-hours work in active data centers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and install structured cabling systems for data centers and enterprise networks.
• Perform high-density fiber optic cable installations.
• Certify cabling systems using advanced test equipment.
• Implement proper cable management in network rooms.
• Terminate and test high-speed copper and fiber connections.
• Maintain detailed testing documentation and warranties.
• Coordinate pathway installation with other trades.
• Perform data center hot aisle/cold aisle separation.
• Install overhead cable tray and ladder rack systems.
• Maintain clean room protocols for sensitive environments.
• Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of installed systems in the Bangor area.
• Adhere to regional safety and building codes specific to Maine.
• Engage with local clients to tailor solutions that meet specific regional needs.

Required Qualifications

• BICSI Installer 1 certification required, Installer 2 preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with fiber optic installation and testing.
• Proficiency with multiple certification testers.
• Understanding of data center design principles.
• Experience with cable management systems and pathways.
• Knowledge of clean room procedures.
• Ability to read and create cable installation drawings.
• Understanding of network hardware requirements.
• 1-5 years of experience required for Voice Data work in a commercial setting.
• Familiarity with Maine’s environmental standards for data center operations.
• Proven ability to work in confined spaces and hot/cold aisle environments specific to the Bangor climate.
