What You’ll Do as a Cable Tech

As a Cable Tech at LEI Electrical in Huntington Park, CA, you’ll be at the heart of our structured cabling projects. You’ll play a crucial role in setting up the backbone of our clients’ communication systems. Our projects range from commercial buildings to data centers, so you’ll get plenty of varied experiences. Your role is hands-on, ensuring that every job is done right and on time. You’ll be involved from the initial setup to the final testing, making sure everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

Your Daily Tasks as a Cable Tech

Your day will kick off with installing structured cabling systems, including Cat5e, Cat6, and fiber optics. You’ll need to terminate and test fiber connections using Fluke equipment, ensuring all connections meet our high standards. Installing and dressing network racks will be part of your routine, where precision and attention to detail are key. Setting up cable tray systems to support and protect the cabling infrastructure will also be one of your tasks. You’ll document as-built plans, keeping records accurate for future reference. Additionally, you’ll often lead small project teams, coordinating efforts and ensuring everyone is on track. Common activities also include troubleshooting connection issues and maintaining a clean and organized work environment, ensuring safety and efficiency.

What You Need to Be a Cable Tech

To thrive as a Cable Tech at LEI Electrical, you’ll need extensive experience with structured cabling. Proficiency in terminating both fiber and copper cables is a must. A solid understanding of TIA/EIA cabling standards will guide your work. You’ll need to read network blueprints accurately, translating them into real-world solutions. Organizational skills are crucial, as you’ll manage tools and inventory efficiently. We expect you to have 3-5 years of experience in the field as a Cable Tech. Hands-on abilities are paramount; you’ll need to demonstrate a practical approach to solving problems and completing tasks.
